Lens Implantation in Turkey / Antalya – Prices & Procedure

Your lens implantation in Turkey

In addition to laser vision correction, Lens Implantation in Turkey is also possible. This is one of the most common surgical procedures performed in Turkey. Whether you suffer from cataract, near or far vision or astigmatism, an artificial lens in the eye will give you new sharp vision – either as a replacement or in addition to your natural lens. Please contact our Aesthetic Travel Team Antalya to find out which procedure is best suited for you, which general service we offer on site and which costs you will incur in Turkey – just contact us!

Who are lens implants for?

The general requirements for an artificial lens are similar to those for laser vision correction. It is important that the patient is at least 18 years old (better mid-twenties) so that the eye is fully developed and no further changes can occur due to growth within the refractive error. However, if an infant is born with congenital cataracts, a lens implant can also be inserted here.

What types of lens implantation are distinguished in Turkey?

To improve your vision efficiently, you can use an additional artificial lens that enhances the visual acuity of your natural lens – a kind of implanted contact lens (so-called Phake Intracular Lens, EVO Visian ICL), or a lens implant (refractive lens replacement, RLA). The latter is usually used for age-related ametropia, so that you can do without your varifocals in the future!

Lens Implantation in Antalya / Turkey: Phake Intracular Lens

Lens Implantation in Turkey: The Aestehtic Travel Team Antalya offers you a contact lens, which is implanted on the surface of the eye, to permanently relieve you of your visual impairment. Dry eyes are a thing of the past, and you can see clearly in any situation and never have to be restricted by vision again! In addition, an integrated UV blocker protects against harmful UVA and UVB rays. Another advantage of the Phake Intracular Lens is that there is no need to apply a healthy corneal trade during the operation. This lens method is suitable for short-sightedness, long-sightedness and astigmatism.

Outlet Phake Intracular Lens

The intraocular lenses are used by our specialist surgeons in Turkey on an outpatient basis under local anesthesia. A light twilight sleep is also possible on request. The actual operation is already completed after about 15 minutes. In the first step anaesthetic eye drops are administered to you, followed by a tiny microsurgical incision at the edge of the cornea. The folded artificial lens is then inserted through this opening and, depending on the type of lens, placed in front of or behind the raincoat. In a further step, a protective bandage is put around your eyes, which you should wear on the first night. Since lens implantation with the intraocular lens is a minimally invasive procedure, the healing process will also take place very quickly.

Lens procedure: Refractive lens replacement

Refractive lens replacement is also performed by our specialist surgeons in Turkey under local anesthesia, whereby a slight twilight sleep is also possible here. In general, the surgical lens procedure is similar to that for cataracts: the eye is opened by a very small incision at the edge of the cornea, the natural lens is then liquefied and carefully sucked out of the capsular sac. Now your individual artificial lens can be inserted into the empty capsular bag. Due to the minimal incision, the healing process will be completed quickly. Since the brain takes a little time to get used to the new sharp vision, it takes a moment for you to fully enjoy your maximum visual acuity.

Lens Implantation Turkey - FAQ

Lens implants (intraocular lenses) are suitable for patients for whom classical laser eye corrections are not suitable. This is the case, among other things, if an extremely high refractive error is present. These include severe far-sightedness and near-sightedness or if the cornea is too thin for other laser procedures. In order to determine this exactly, a careful preliminary examination is important, in which these data are determined exactly.

With an implanted Phake intraocular lens you can be freed from contact lenses and glasses. This type of lens implant is placed inside the posterior chamber of the eye with minimal surgery (approximately ten minutes per eye) to your natural lens. Phake intraocular lenses are made to measure for you, so that your individual far-sightedness, near-sightedness and corneal curvature can be optimally corrected. The implanted lens is neither visible nor noticeable. In this way, several visual defects can be corrected at the same time.

If a multifocal lens is used for lens implantation, your natural lens is removed by means of a tiny incision at the corneal edge and then a multifocal intraocular lens is inserted. This type of artificial lens is specially shaped and compressed so that it is possible to unfold and take exactly the place of the previous lens. The treated eye is bandaged for one day after the procedure. Since the cut is kept extremely small, it closes itself.

Since the eyes are supplied with anaesthetic drops, patients usually feel only a slight feeling of pressure. Between three to five hours after eye surgery, your eyes may water a little, are easily sensitive to light and a foreign body sensation may occur. These reactions disappear by themselves. However, you do not need painkillers.

Your eyes usually recover within 24 hours. Your eyesight is usually quite good. During the following weeks your vision will improve more and more. However, you should always follow the doctor’s instructions / precautions and your drip plan.

The total cost of lens implantation always depends on the implant used, the respective visual defect and the treating specialist. In Germany, you can generally expect costs of 2,000 to 2,000 euros. Depending on the health insurance company, lens implants can be partially or completely covered.

However, the health insurance only pays for traditional monofocal lenses if lens implantation is absolutely necessary (e.g. for cataracts). The private insurance is often more accommodating and also pays for multifocal lenses (premium lenses).

Despite the strictest hygiene and care, there can be a greater risk of infection during lens implantation, as foreign bodies are inserted into the eyes. Nevertheless, such incidents are extremely rare. Furthermore, vision may be impaired at dusk and in the dark. Under/overcorrections are also possible if a measurement error crept in during the preliminary examination, as the patients wore contact lenses days before. This creates impressions in the eyes which can falsify the measured values.

An advantage of lens implantation: if complications arise, the implants can be removed at any time and without complications.
