The ReLEx Smile technique is an innovative improvement of Femto-LASIK, eliminating the need for an excimer laser. Eye laser treatments have become significantly gentler, faster and safer with ReLEx Smile. The laser only requires a minimum opening of two millimeters to prepare a three-dimensional lenticle (slice) in the area of the inner cornea. The disc is then removed through this ‘keyhole’ (keyhole technique). The shape and tissue volume of the removed lens corresponds to the visual defect to be corrected. This gentle procedure reduces the disruption of tear production and keeps the cornea stable. For these reasons, the ReLEx Smile technique is particularly suitable for patients suffering from intolerance to contact lenses and dry eyes.

Sometimes it can feel as if there is a foreign body inside the eye. Normally patients are symptom-free after one day. You should rest after the ReLEx Smile treatment and apply your eye drops regularly.
The ReLEx Smile procedure only causes a minimal wound. This usually heals completely after about twenty minutes. Afterwards, no significant precautions are necessary and you can already take a shower or exercise. Protective goggles for the night are also not necessary.
