ReLEx Smile – what is it anyway?

The ReLEx Smile process (Small Incision Lenticule Extraction) is not only very gentle and almost painless, but the “flap” (corneal flap) can be dispensed with here. In addition, this modern technology offered by the Aestehtic Travel Team in Antalya can correct complicated visual impairments such as nearsightedness down to -10 diopters and corneal curvatures up to 5 diopters. Because ReLex Smile requires only a minimal cut (2-3 mm long), from which the name comes, there are hardly any risks and side effects. This means that this laser eye method can also be used in Turkey for patients with very thin corneas or those who often suffer from eye dryness. Compared to other laser techniques, such as LASIK, ReLEx Smile is a minimally invasive procedure that does not require a flap or microeratome.

ReLEx Smile treatment procedure

This eye laser operation requires only a small incision of 2-3 mm in the upper corneal layer. Here the precision does not depend on many different parameters (e.g. corneal thickness, corneal condition, water content) as it is the case with other eye laser techniques, rather the ReLEx Smile variant focuses on the so-called femosecond laser. In addition, this eye laser technology takes place in a closed system, which means that the laser is connected to the eye exclusively via a shaped contact lens of the required size. In this case, the patient does not necessarily have to work together, which would be necessary, for example, during LASIK treatment, since the eye must be directed at a specific point of light. Furthermore, the eye tracking control system helps to detect eye movements so that the laser treatment at ReLEx Smile can be interrupted directly to prevent possible sources of error from the outset. The result of this modern technology can also be validated in advance. Furthermore, post-treatment is very easy to handle. The general laser eye treatment with the ReLEx Smile technique takes about 5 minutes per eye and is mainly painless.

Further advantages of ReLEx Smile treatment in Turkey

Besides the very high precision with which the femotosecond laser works, the fact that no pain occurs, the incision on the eye is minimal and the patient does not have to work as in other eye operations, the entire procedure takes only about 10 minutes. However, there are other advantages, such as that already 20-30 minutes after the ReLEx Smile treatment there are hardly any restrictions left. This means you can shower, exercise immediately or sleep without an eye patch. In addition, you will save money if you choose laser eye surgery from Aestehic Travel in Turkey! ReLEx Smile Turkey - FAQ

ReLEx: Refractive Lenticule Extraction Smile: Small Incision Lenticule Extraction.

The innovative ReLEx Smile method is suitable for patients with the following diopter values:

  • Nearsightedness: -10 up to -1 diopters
  • Astigmatism (astigmatism): -5 to -1 diopters.

This technology is not suitable for farsightedness. Whether ReLEx Smile is ultimately suitable for you personally depends on the exact preliminary examination by the treating surgeon on site.

The ReLEx Smile technique is an innovative improvement of Femto-LASIK, eliminating the need for an excimer laser. Eye laser treatments have become significantly gentler, faster and safer with ReLEx Smile. The laser only requires a minimum opening of two millimeters to prepare a three-dimensional lenticle (slice) in the area of the inner cornea. The disc is then removed through this ‘keyhole’ (keyhole technique). The shape and tissue volume of the removed lens corresponds to the visual defect to be corrected. This gentle procedure reduces the disruption of tear production and keeps the cornea stable. For these reasons, the ReLEx Smile technique is particularly suitable for patients suffering from intolerance to contact lenses and dry eyes.

No. The eye is first anaesthetized with local anesthesia in the form of drops. You normally feel no pain during the procedure. If you wish, you can get a light sedative before the operation. The treating ophthalmic surgeon will also inform you during the treatment about his work steps. However, each patient reacts individually to laser treatments. Sometimes it can feel as if there is a foreign body inside the eye. Normally patients are symptom-free after one day. You should rest after the ReLEx Smile treatment and apply your eye drops regularly.

The ReLEx Smile procedure only causes a minimal wound. This usually heals completely after about twenty minutes. Afterwards, no significant precautions are necessary and you can already take a shower or exercise. Protective goggles for the night are also not necessary. At the first follow-up check shortly after the procedure, you will receive some instructions from your doctor that you should follow. Your full vision is usually restored after about two/four days.

For an eye laser treatment with ReLEx Smile you should plan about 1,800 Euro per eye in Germany. Private health insurance funds sometimes bear all or part of the costs. Statutory health insurance does not currently cover the costs of laser eye surgery. However, some clinics / institutes offer a flexible partial payment.

Serious complications are extremely rare in this high-tech laser treatment. In order for the healing process to be optimal, it is imperative that you keep to your follow-up appointments. The same applies to the doctor’s instructions and the drop plan. The side effects of any laser eye treatment are normally harmless, short-term and easy to treat.
