Which method is suitable? LASIK or LASEK: Anyone who starts to deal with laser eye surgery will inevitably stumble across two different types of treatment. LASIK and LASEK. In order to understand the differences, you should first look at laser eye surgery in general.

Laser Eye Surgery in Turkey – LASIK or LASEK

The special laser for eye surgery aims to reshape the clear layer of the eye, i.e. the cornea, with a concentrated beam of light. There are two different laser treatment methods: LASIK and LASEK. The main difference is the way the cornea is prepared to allow the light beam, the laser, to pass through.

What is LASIK?

Written out, LASIK says exactly: Laser-in-situ keratomileusis. The LASIK method has been used for more than two decades. Millions of people around the world have benefited from it. The first beam of the laser creates a very thin protective flap on the cornea. This protective flap is called a flap. In the next step, the flap is raised and the second laser beam is used to correct the defective vision. It is possible to treat both eyes on the same day. The associated healing process is rapid and patients can usually go back to work after around two days. Most treated patients immediately notice an improvement in their vision. For others, it may take a few weeks for the desired sharp vision to occur.

What is LASEK?

LASEK stands for Laser Epithelial Keratomileusis. LASEK is used when the patient has a thin cornea. The same applies if there is an eye disease that makes treatment more difficult. Only a laser beam is used in the treatment.

With the LASEK method, an alcohol solution is dripped directly onto the surface of the eye and then covered with a foil. The purpose of the alcohol solution is to loosen the thin layer of cells on the surface of the eye. The cells then stick to the foil. This is moved gently to the side of the eye accordingly. The eye surgeon now treats with the laser. A special protective contact lens is placed on the eye for the healing phase. After a few days, this is removed from the eye. Both eyes can be treated with the laser on the same day. In this case, too, immediate improvement is noted in most cases. The entire recovery process can take a little longer than with the LASIK method.
